Robertsdale man arrested on child sexual abuse charges

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama —  A Robertsdale man was arrested and charged with sexual abuse of a child under 12 after an alleged incident during an Easter lunch on Saturday.

Jackie Robert Brown, 67, of Robertsdale was booked into the Baldwin County Corrections Facility at 9:46 p.m. on Saturday and is being held on a $15,000 bond, according to Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department records.

According to reports, Brown was attending a cookout at a home in Robertsdale when the resident reportedly found Brown alone with a minor child in the child’s bedroom, reportedly initiating sexual contact.

“Basically the father of the child walked into find the child undressed and Mr. Brown partially undressed,” said Capt. Steven Arthur, investigator with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department. “He asked Brown what he was doing, escorted him from the home and called 9-1-1.”

Deputies from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the home on Forest View Road, just outside Robertsdale’s police jurisdiction, at around 5 p.m. on Saturday and arrested Brown at the home.

Brown has one prior arrest listed on the Corrections Department website, from October of 1999. He was released the next day on $1,000. Arthur said the charge appears as a simple assault and that Brown has had no record of prior arrests similar to Saturday’s incident.

The charge is a Class B felony, Arthur said and, if convicted, Brown faces 2 to 20 years in prison.
