Robertsdale (1-2) held a 27-11 lead at the half, but Gulf Shores (1-2) outscored the Bears 21-5 in the third period to tie the game at 32 to start the fourth. The Dolphins hit three three-pointers and Morgan Campbell’s layup tied the game with 7.8 seconds left in the period.

“We made some adjustments at the half,” Gulf Shores head coach Austin Boyd said. “We went to man to put some pressure on them, but it was too little too late.”

Robertsdale coach Paul Marsh said foul trouble hurt his team early in the second half. The Bears had only two bench players available.

“We had a big lead at the half but we have to be smarter with or depth and stay out of foul trouble,” Marsh said. “We came out in the second half and had six fouls in the first two minutes. We had to sit some people there. They stayed with it and my subs played hard. It felt good to get the win.”

Marsh said his team responded well after the Gulf Shores scoring run in the third.

“I challenged them mentally and told them to play disciplined, not foul and play good assignment basketball and they did that and we were able to hang on for the win.”

Robertsdale finished the game on an 8-2 run behind nine fourth period points from Madeline Petite and five from Austin Richardson. Both juniors, Petite finished with 19 points and Richardson had 17 in the win.

“They have been playing together for a while now, they work well together,” Marsh said. “They are part of the core of my team. I was real proud of them.”

For Gulf Shores, Chloe Roberts had 12 points and Campbell had 10 in the loss.

Both teams are back in action on Thursday at 6 p.m. as Gulf Shores hosts Bayside Academy and Robertsdale hosts Spanish Fort.
