ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — The City of Robertsdale had its annual Memorial Day observance Monday, May 30 at Gordo Coley Park.
The program began with the raising of the flag by Cadet Executive Officer Ashley Taylor and Petty Officer 1st Class Edward “Theo” Theodoro, Naval science instructor, with presentation of colors by members of the Robertsdale High School Naval Jr. ROTC, and the playing of Taps by Suzie Vivar, music education instructor at Robertsdale Elementary School.
Alabama District 22 Sen. Greg Albritton was guest speaker for the event, which included the presentation of Bibles to 23 veterans and active service members, including five from the Robertsdale Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, who were presented their Bibles at the center earlier in the day.
Receiving Bibles were Terry Lee, Leonard Frey, Dan Carmichael, Edward Courtney, Chris Reville, Paul Corvin, Harold Carnford, Jonathan S. Plato, Chad R. Thomas, Adam Parker, Daniel Henley, Bryan L. Swindle, Frederick “Red” Thomas and the guest speaker.
Paula Brown also accepted a Bible on behalf of her son, active service member Dakotah Brown. Also honored but not present for the event were Carl Herndon, Donald Hayes “Skip” Albee and Steve Fountain.
Healthcare Center residents receiving Bibles were Kevin Childress, Richard Ferrell, Richard Lawton, Linal Hinote and Thomas Reese.
The Rev. Stephen Hellman, pastor of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Robertsdale, closed the ceremony with a prayer.
