Robertsdale High students invited to participate in career fair

Posted

The Health Occupations Career Fair at the Mobile Civic Center will be Nov. 4. Juniors, sophomores and freshmen at Robertsdale High, who are interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare industry, are encouraged to participate. Students must have at least a 2.5 GPA, no unexcused absences, no disciplinary problems and they must be approved by their guidance counselor.

The career fair is entirely interactive with hands-on experience at each exhibit.

Students will have the chance to offer emergency first aid to victims in a car crash, and then they will follow them through to X-ray, blood typing, as well as surgery and recovery.

From there, representatives from Faulkner State and the University of South Alabama will explain the role of nursing. There the students will learn to administer shots, as well as see how IVs are used.

Physical therapy will be explained, as well as the role of social workers upon the release of the patient from a hospital setting.

Students should contact their guidance counselor today to sign-up, as time is running out, and space is limited! Juniors and sophomores will be given first priority, with any space left going to the freshman class.

Interim Principal Craig Ross was honored with a reception the afternoon of Oct. 14 in the Robertsdale High Library. Ross said he saw his role as one of support for his teaching staff, as well as making any changes necessary to help RHS remain one of the top high schools in Baldwin County.

The week before last the Fellowship of Christian Athletes held their Field of Faith at J.D. Sellers Stadium. The event featured the music of the Christian band Magnetic, various games with a purpose for playing them, and a series of monologues, Bible verses, and personal testimonies from RHS seniors, Taylor Ryals and Flynn Wood.

The group forgot the sprinkler system was on a timer, so when water started spraying across the field, one wit declared there were now 35 new Methodists and four new Baptists, as they had been standing next to the sprinkler heads when they went off and thus got the full effect. Needless to say, it won’t be an event that’s easily forgotten.

There will be a senior meeting in the cafeteria during first block on Oct. 24.

A Red Cross Blood Drive will be held in the RHS Library on Oct. 26 during most of the school day. Over the years the students have established a reputation for not only meeting, but exceeding the day’s goals. Students from the Health Occupations Students of America from the South Baldwin Center for Technology will be on hand to make sure the day goes smoothly.

The seniors will be going to the College and Career Fair at Faulkner State Community College on Oct. 27. The purpose of the trip is to give RHS’s seniors a chance to talk to college recruiters as well as receive free food.

Many of Robertsdale’s seniors have already been accepted to their schools of choice, while others are still unsure as to whether they want to attend a university, community college, go to a trade school, or join one of the various branches of the military.
