Robertsdale Dental Care will hold its 19th annual “Dentists with a Heart” event Friday from 8 a.m. until noon at its new facility, continuing a long-running effort to provide free dental extractions to residents without dental insurance.
Founded in 2007 by Dr. Jason Northcutt, the one-day outreach program has become a key community service in Baldwin County, addressing what organizers describe as a persistent need for accessible oral healthcare. Patients are treated on a first-come, first-served basis and typically begin arriving early in the morning as staff welcome and screen attendees.
The 2026 event will take place at Robertsdale Dental Care’s new state-of-the-art location at 21721 Highway 59 in Robertsdale. The move marks a new chapter for the practice’s flagship outreach initiative, which has grown steadily through word-of-mouth and community engagement over nearly two decades.
The program’s impact has expanded significantly since its inception. Prior to this year’s event, “Dentists with a Heart” had served more than 700 people and completed over 1,000 free extractions. Organizers expect that milestone totals will rise past 1,500 extractions following this year’s effort.
Dozens of residents from Robertsdale and surrounding communities are expected to attend. The event focuses on individuals experiencing dental pain who cannot afford basic procedures, particularly tooth extractions that can otherwise be financially out of reach.
“I learned years ago that you don't have to go to a foreign country to do a mission — you can help people in your own backyard. It is a joy to do so," Dr. Northcutt said. "We have been given so much. This is our opportunity to give back and help folks who are in pain because they can't afford something as basic as a tooth extraction."
Volunteer dentists and staff participate alongside the Robertsdale Dental Care team, contributing their time to provide care while also strengthening professional and personal connections within the group. Organizers say past participants often describe the experience as both impactful and rewarding.
"We get so much more out of this than the patients," Dr. Northcutt added. "Just being able to give back and enjoy each other—it's just so much fun. It blesses us as a dental team, and I think it also blesses those that we serve year after year.”
Patients who have received care in previous years have consistently cited rising costs and limited insurance coverage as barriers to treatment, underscoring the need for events like “Dentists with a Heart,” organizers said.
