FOLEY, Alabama — Robertsdale junior Brooke McGhee struck out nine in her first start as the Lady Golden Bears defeated Foley 2-0 in 6A Area 3 play on Thursday.

McGhee (1-0) gave up three hits and three walks as Robertsdale improved to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in area play.

"She pitched a good game," Robertsdale head coach Barry Roberts said. "We had a little bit of offense, got some runners in scoring position, but one of the things we have to improve on is getting those runs across the plate. If we get those runs across the plate then we would have taken the doubt out of the game."

Hannah Prestwood had two hits and two RBIs, Taylor Volovecky had an RBI double and Kayli Evans had two doubles for Robertsdale, who bounced back from an area loss to Fairhope on Tuesday.

Taylor Volovecky's RBI came in the first inning after Harley Volovecky led off with a bunt single. Prestwood drove Beth Taylor in for a run on a single in the third.

"We had a very heartbreaking loss Tuesday night," Roberts said. "They came back tonight and did some things well. We've got a few things we can improve on, but I'm proud of the way they came out and won tonight."

Nicholette Moore and Kara Stewart had singles and Chelsea Gholson doubled for Foley, who fell to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in area play. Ally Daniels took the loss for the Lady Lions.

Robertsdale will play Baker at 6 p.m. Friday in the Daphne Jubilee Tournament at Trione Park. Foley will play at Spanish Fort on Monday at 7 p.m.
