Robert Lee Newman, 84, of Foley, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2014.
Mr. Newman was born in Ardmore, Tenn. He was a retired naval aviator and meteorology officer, with his last duty station being at the Office of Naval Research.
Bob later was an instructor of NJROTC at McEachern High School in Powders Springs, Ga. and an administrator for business schools in Annapolis, Md. and Providence, R.I.
He moved to Foley in 2000.
Mr. Newman was preceded in death by a brother, Mel.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Jean Newman; son, Larry Newman of Pensacola; daughters, Celeste Ellis (David) of Pace, Fla. and Nancy Ravey (Earl) of Pensacola; brothers, Joseph M. Newman (Nelda) and George W. Newman (Sherry), both of Ardmore; the mother of his children, Lucy Newman of Pensacola; two grandchildren, Katie Ellis Oliver (Norman) and Benjamin Ellis (Kandi); two great-grandchildren, Gabriel Oliver and Skyler Grey Ellis; sisters-in-law, Debra Newman of Florence, Ala., Jody Keys of Johnson City, Tenn. and Susan Jones (Richard) of Blountville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, from 4 until 6 p.m., at Hughes Funeral Home in Daphne, with a celebration of Bob’s life at 6 p.m.
