Robbie Ann Sykes, 85, a native of Jackson, Miss., and a resident of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach for 15 years, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at her home in Orange Beach after a long battle with heart disease.
She graduated from the University of Southern Miss. in Hattiesburg in 1948. She previously lived in Jackson where she retired from Clark County Board of Education.
The family lived in the Antioch Community where they owned a gas station/convenience store for many years. She was an active member of WMU and garden club and won yard of the month several times.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Bill Sykes.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Sykes (Jim) Drury and Vicki Sykes (John) Mixon; son, Kenny (Susan) Sykes; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; brother, Billy (Martha) Bethune of Greenville, Miss., and a very special friend of 80 years, Iris Wright Gulf Shores.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to Odyssey Health Care Services for all their love and care during her illness.
A celebration of her life memorial will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22 at Orange Beach United Methodist Church on Canal Road.
