DAPHNE — After a false lead, police are still searching for two men who allegedly robbed the manager of a Sonic fast food restaurant.
Last week, police had questioned two men about the incident — due to their appearance on surveillance footage from a nearby service station — but an investigation determined they were not involved with the robbery, police Lt. Jud Beedy said.
“We have other leads we’re following up on, ” he said, declining to offer further details about the investigation.
Police said the manager had left the Sonic on U.S. 98 early morning on June 18 to use the outside restroom when he was approached by the men.
“When he reached the restroom two black males approached him, forced him into the bathroom and threw him on the floor,” Beedy said in a news release. “Once the manager was on the ground, one suspect sat on the manager and the other one pointed a gun at the head of the manager.”
The men tied up the manager with duct tape and took his wallet, keys and a cell phone before leaving him on the restroom floor, police said.
Identifying the suspects may prove difficult, Beedy said.
“The lights were off in the bathroom and he (the manager) didn’t get a good look at ‘em,” Beedy said. “We just don’t have a lot to go on there …”
