Construction along County Road 26, also known as West Michigan Avenue, is complete as crews continue work on improvements at the intersection with South Hickory Street, according to an update from the Baldwin County Commission.
The project now shifts focus to South Hickory Street, where roadway widening and the construction of new turn lanes are underway a news release said. Once that work is finished, crews will install a permanent mast-arm traffic signal, marking the final phase of the project.
According to the release, the intersection improvements are a joint effort between the Baldwin County Commission and the City of Foley and are designed to improve traffic flow and enhance safety in a growing area of the city. The location serves as a key connector for local traffic and has seen increased use in recent years due to residential and commercial development.
“We’re pleased with the progress being made as work continues toward completion of this project,” Charles “Skip” Gruber, Baldwin County District 4 Commissioner, said in the release.
County officials said additional updates will be provided as construction advances and the project approaches completion.
