BAY MINETTE, Alabama — The sixth annual “Starla Ride VI” and Richard E. Sims Jr. Memorial Ride will be held Feb. 4. Sponsored by the BMB Rockets and Rockettes, the ride begins at Faulkner State Community College in Bay Minette.
Proceeds from the event help assist families in need and award an outstanding senior from Baldwin County with the “Just Trust” scholarship. Last year’s event drew more than 80 participants.
Honoree Starla Chapman will be present with her parents Korey and DeAndra Chapman of Bay Minette.
The cost is $15 each for rider and $5 passenger. Arrive early to register from 10 to 11:30 a.m. There will be a 50/50 raffle.
The ride is named in honor of Bay Minette’s Starla Chapman who is now in remission from cancer. The first event (then called Ride for Starla) included a ride from Bay Minette to Mobile to visit her in the hospital. Since then the renamed “Starla Ride” has become a way to raise funds for other projects.
Last year the organization added the Richard Sims Jr. Memorial Ride in memory of a friend – and long-time participant -- who died at the hands of a drunk driver.
