Richard Gaunt, 88, born in Detroit, Mich. and a resident of Foley, passed away suddenly on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013.
Richard joined the armed forces shortly after finishing high school and also served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a submariner.
Richard loved the water, learning to sail and to swim, and he enjoyed spending his time on the topside of the water instead of underneath.
He was a very capable insurance salesman and sales force leader. After living in several states, Richard settled in California.
He was a lively, creative and bright person, teaching himself many things and growing in his ability and understanding of his world and life. He was a generous person and had a big heart.
Surviving are his daughters, Cindy Gaunt and Julia Gaunt; and his son, Thomas Gaunt; his grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many other friends and relatives.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013 at Pleasant View Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pleasant View Baptist Church, 19197 County Road 12 S., Foley, AL 36535.
