RHS congratulates alum as top man at Apple

ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — Congratulations to Robertsdale High alum, Tim Cook, on being named Chief Executive Officer of Apple Computer. Cook took over the reins of the multi-national electronics corporation following the resignation of Steve Jobs, the former CEO, and founder of Apple, which is know world-wide for its Mac computers. Jobs will now move over to the board, where he will serve as chairman.

Cook is no stranger to the top office as he has had to fill in for Jobs when Jobs had to take medical leave from the company. Business writers and investors wonder if Cook will be able to maintain Apple’s edge of the competition, but those teachers at RHS that knew him, don’t have a doubt in their mind that he can do anything he sets his mind to.

At RHS Cook was his class Salutatorian, in addition to being a member of the Golden Bear Marching Band. He was also a member of the National Honor Society, First Place in the National High School Mathematics Test, Baldwin County Youth Tour winner, Who’s Who Most Studious, Boys State representative as well as many other activities and clubs.

After Robertsdale High, Cook attended Auburn University, where he majored in industrial engineering. He then attended Duke University, where he earned a Masters of Business Administration.

Cook’s parents still live in Robertsdale, and he occasionally visits them during various holidays. Naturally, he has a standing invitation to drop by the school anytime he would like.

Homecoming will be Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. at J.D. Sellers Stadium this year.

This year’s theme will be from Disney as students use various takes on Disney themes for their homeroom doors and in the Homecoming Parade, which will be held the day before the game using the same route as last year. The parade will wind up at Honeybee Park.

The Homecoming Court will be presented prior to the football game, which will pit the Golden Bears against the Satsuma Gators. The queen will be crowned at that time.

This year’s Court is composed of; Erica Alexander, Hope Carnathan, Roselee Coggin, Rachel Lomax, Autumn Phillips, Sarah Sawyer, and Danielle Swafford from the senior class. This year’s junior maids include: Nakea Davis, Sydney Hoover and Weezie Jeffords. The sophomore class representatives will be Regan Eakin, Danielle Johnson, and Hannah Priestwood. The freshman class maids are; Allee Bertolla, Bailey Ellison, and Taylor Mitchell. This group of young ladies was voted on prior to Labor Day Holiday.

The Homecoming Queen, which comes from the senior class, will be voted on during the week prior to the game.

The Homecoming Dance will be the following evening from 7:30 to 11 p.m. The cost of the Homecoming Dance tickets, which are now available in the library, will be $10. There will be no refund or exchange should a student not be able to make it to the dance. Sept. 14 is the deadline for outside date forms.

During the dance the Homecoming Court will be presented once more, sometime around the middle of the festivities. The dress code for the dance is no jeans of flip-flops.

The RHS Band Boosters are pre-selling Bar-B-Q Plate Dinners for the Annual Play-A-Thon, which will be held Sept. 17 at J.D. Sellers Stadium. The Dinners are $7 a plate and will contain Pulled Pork (from L.A. Bar-B-Q), Baked Beans, Cole Slaw, Bread and Dessert. The times for pick up at the stadium are 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The band will present their final show “The Blues Brothers” at 4:30 p.m. We will also be holding a silent auction during the event.

To purchase tickets you can see RHS Band Director Robin Isherwood or any of the Band Boosters. If you are interested and you want to purchase a ticket, you can also e-mail Isherwood at risherwood@bcbe.com and she will get the ticket to you a.s.a.p. The Band Boosters are trying to raise $17,000 to cover the travel expenses for the Band to go to the Gator Bowl in January.
