Residents can help offset local fashion model's medical bills

SPANISH FORT, Ala.—Members of the Gulf Coast fashion industry will gather from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 16 at Pure: The Experience on Azalea Road in Mobile for a night of glamour and goodwill benefiting the Morgan Griffin Fund.

Ware Jewelers and Private Gallery at the Eastern Shore Centre are among more than one dozen local businesses supporting Fashion Forward, a benefit to raise funds to help the local fashion model pay medical bills and other expenses associated with a December diagnosis of an aggressive brain tumor.

Griffin, 23, was celebrating her first magazine cover for “Coastal Lifestyle,” when she learned what she mistook for a migraine was actually a second-stage astrocytoma. She has since placed both nursing school and her part-time job at Ware Jewelers in Spanish Fort on hold while she receives treatments at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The show, organized by Suzanne Massengill of Barefoot Models and Talent, will feature 15 models donning upscale designs with a New York flair.

Massengill said the evening will embody “everything that Morgan stands for: love, unity, and of course, fashion.”

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door. In addition to the fashion show, featuring the work of several local designers, the event will also include a local folk band and a deejay.
