St. Patrick Catholic School 8th graders visited the Cathedral of the
Immaculate Conception on 3.20.2012 in Mobile, Alabama, and enjoyed a
tour given by Mr. Tillman Brown. The tour began in Cathedral Square
with some historical background on the Catholic community of Mobile
and the building of the cathedral itself. The tour continued on the
portico of the cathedral where the students learned more about the
architecture of the building and the gifts of the papacy to the
cathedral. Inside students learned about many of the symbols of our
faith, the importance of the Eucharist, and visited the resting place
of the bishops beneath the cathedral. Students had time after the tour
to explore the cathedral on their own. Before the tour, the class
visited the historic Portier House, next to the cathedral, former home
of Mobile's first bishop. Afterwards, the students traveled to the
Malbis Memorial Church to see an example of a Greek Orthodox Church.
The field trip was a wonderful complement to our Religion and World
History studies. Pictured are (kneeling LtoR) JoAnna Dembowski, Gloria
Terrazas, Brendan Binniker, Lauren Ochoa, Jessica Brown, Anna

Garrett Davies, Sabrina Skaggs, William Cooey, and Abbie Combs.
