Religion column by Dr. Franklin L. Kirksey: Your place in time, matter and space

You find time, matter and space in the first verse in the Bible. Genesis 1:1 reads, "In the beginning (time) God created the heavens (space) and the earth (matter)." Proverbs 27:8 reads, "Like a bird that wanders from its nest Is a man who wanders from his place." Have you ever been out of place? To be in the will of God is to be in your place. Even Christians can find themselves out of place. Stephen F. Olford frequently exhorted, "Find, follow and finish God's will for your life." Let me call your attention to three things related to the will of God.

The will of God is the best place. To be in the will of God is to be in the best place, regardless of your geographical location. Someone wisely said, "The will of God will not take you where the grace of God can't keep you." Paul refers to the will of God as "good and acceptable and perfect" in Romans 12:2. First Timothy 2:3-4 reads, "For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." First Thessalonians 4:1-3 reads, "Finally then, brethren, we urge and exhort in the Lord Jesus that you should abound more and more, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God; for you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification."

The will of God is the rest place. Jesus gives this invitation: "Come unto Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30). In the words of Henry Lake Gilmor:

"My soul in sad exile was out on life's sea,
So burdened with sin, and distressed,

Till I heard a sweet voice saying, 'Make Me your choice,'
And I entered the haven of rest."

Have you entered the haven of rest? Have you trusted Jesus Christ alone with your soul?

The will of God is the test place. The book of Job reveals you can be tested in the will of God. Job 23:10 reads, "But He knows the way that I take, when He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold." First Peter 1:7 reads, "that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ." Adrian Rogers said, "A faith that can't be tested, can't be trusted."

Keep these things in mind, dear Christian, as you seek to find your place in time, matter and space.
