Register today: Free workshop to focus on private well water quality in Magnolia Springs and surrounding areas

Well owners in Magnolia Springs and nearby communities will have a chance this month to learn more about the water they use every day during a free workshop on private well quality.

The meeting is set for 10 a.m. Jan. 26 at the Weeks Bay Reserve Resource Center, 11525 U.S. 98, Fairhope. The Town of Magnolia Springs is helping coordinate the event with Auburn University, Baldwin County environmental officials and the Weeks Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve.

The informational program will cover the geology of coastal Alabama, why regular testing matters for private well owners, how to understand test results and where to get water tested. Organizers said the workshop will focus on common water quality concerns tied to private wells in the region’s sandy soils and shallow aquifers.

A free educational screening for bacteria will be offered to participants who register. Those taking part must pick up a sample container from Magnolia Springs Town Hall, located at 12191 Magnolia Springs Highway, before bringing samples to the workshop. Town officials said containers will be available through Jan. 26.

Registration is required but there is no cost to attend. Participants may sign up online at https://aub.ie/magnoliawells or by calling (334) 844-3809. Registration is requested by Jan. 25.

In addition to water testing education, attendees who are experiencing specific mechanical issues with well systems will be given contact information for local treatment specialists and certified well and pump installers.

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System, a partnership of Alabama A&M University and Auburn University, is presenting the program.
