The American Red Cross is urging people to donate blood in September as busy fall schedules could lead to fewer donors and a drop in available blood products.
The blood supply remains vulnerable after recovering from critically low levels during a summer shortage. Donors of all blood types are needed to help patients who rely on blood products for care.
Appointments can be scheduled at RedCrossBlood.org, by calling (800) 733-2767 or through the Red Cross Blood Donor App.
Those who donate Sept. 1-20 will receive an exclusive Red Cross x Hello Kitty plush mascot clip and surprise sticker pack, while supplies last. Details are at RedCrossBlood.org/HelloKitty.
Donors who give Sept. 21-Oct. 18 will receive a $15 e-gift card to a merchant of their choice. Visit RedCrossBlood.org/Fall for details.
From Sept. 21-30, donors at Red Cross blood donation centers who mention “pickleball” to onsite staff or volunteers can also receive a custom Red Cross pickleball paddle and ball, while supplies last. More information is available at RedCrossBlood.org/FindADonationCenter.
The Red Cross is marking the 85th anniversary of Dr. Charles R. Drew’s appointment as the first medical director of the Red Cross Blood Program with the release of "Iconic Excellence," a short documentary about his life and influence.
The film will be available on the Red Cross YouTube channel beginning Sept. 18. Community members can honor Drew’s legacy by donating blood, encouraging others to give or hosting a documentary screening. Learn more at RedCrossBlood.org/IconicExcellence.
