Red Cross urges blood donations as spring demand rises, offers T-shirt incentive

Posted

The American Red Cross is calling on donors to schedule blood donations as spring begins, warning that seasonal activities and travel can strain the nation’s blood supply.

To encourage participation, the Red Cross is partnering with lifestyle brand Life is Good to offer a limited-edition incentive. Those who donate blood between now and April 12 will receive an exclusive Red Cross x Life is Good T-shirt, while supplies last. More information is available at www.RedCrossBlood.org/LifeIsGood.

The campaign aims to maintain a stable blood supply during a time when busy schedules, including spring break and increased outdoor events, can reduce donor turnout. Officials say consistent donations from people of all blood types are essential to meeting patient needs.

“Life is Good has always been about more than a T-shirt; it's a reminder that the world is full of good worth fighting for, and that spreading optimism starts with the everyday choices we make,” said Linne Kimball, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships for Life is Good. “For us, partnering with the Red Cross was a natural fit, because giving blood is proof that one person and one simple act can make a real difference. We hope this collaboration inspires donors old and new to turn positivity into purpose — because doing good doesn't have to be complicated, sometimes all it takes is rolling up a sleeve.”

Red Cross officials emphasize that the need for blood is constant, even as donor availability fluctuates.

“It’s critical that donors make and keep appointments in the weeks to come to help the blood supply stand up to any seasonal disruptions or challenges,” said Paul Sullivan, senior vice president of donor services for the Red Cross. “The Red Cross is grateful to Life is Good for joining us in an important mission — sparking optimism and kindness through blood donation.”

Appointments can be scheduled by visiting www.RedCrossBlood.org, downloading the Red Cross Blood Donor App or calling (800) 733-2767.

Upcoming blood donation opportunities in Baldwin County include:

Daphne: April 7 from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Eastern Shore Church of Christ, 1209 Daphne Avenue.

Gulf Shores: April 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Coastal Alabama Community College Admin Building, 3301 Gulf Shores Parkway.
