A real family affair! The Red Clay Strays made a surprise appearance during the Jacob Hall Memorial Jam, taking the stage with the John W. Hall & The Family Band to close out a night of music and legacy for the season finale of the Live at Five concert series in Fairhope last night.

The night also saw grants awarded to several local musicians and music educators through the Jacob Hall Memorial Music Grant.

Born and raised in Mobile, Jacob Hall was a talented multi-instrumentalist and a respected presence in the Gulf Coast music scene from a young age. Coming from a musical family, Jacob played alongside his father, John C. Hall and brother John W Hall (drummer of the Red Clay Strays), off and on for many years. He was also member of Justin Jeansonne and the Dixie Gentlemen, Paw Paw’s Medcine Cabinet and played with The Red Clay Strays, Abe Partridge, Jake Burford, Johnny Hayes, and many more. Though his life was cut short at 23, his impact continues to be felt.

The Jacob Hall Memorial Music Grant honors Jacob’s legacy by helping remove financial barriers for young musicians and creating access to the resources they need to keep playing.
