Concerning the recent appointment of Eddie Boyett to a newly created position within the recreation department, as reported in the Dec. 2 Fairhope Courier, I have to ask why the mayor and council would add another $55,000 salary to the city payroll.
Mayor Kant apparently pushed for the appointment of Boyett to this new position. Boyett retired two years ago as the head of the rec department and now returns as a result of what appears to be a “good ole boy” appointment by Kant.
This city amazes me every time I read The Courier and the backroom deals that are cut by its elected officials. It seems such deals and favors to politically powerful friends of the mayor, council and police chief are the norm.
Did we really need another person in the recreation department? No, we did not. But the mayor’s buddy got bored, so we pay for his hobby and the mayor gets away with another backroom deal, and another member of the “good ole boy club” gets taken care of at the taxpayer’s expense.
