Charles “Charlie” Rautmann, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center in Foley, after suffering a debilitating stroke.
He was born Dec. 1, 1925 in East St. Louis, IL to Henry and Leona Rautmann, the youngest of three children. He attended high school in Washington, IL where he earned the Eagle Scout designation. After high school, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps on Midway Island (Pacific Theater) during World War II. He attended Bradley University in Peoria, IL. He retired from the Carton & Container Division of General Foods in 1984. He and his wife moved to Gulf Shores in 1988. They were active in the American Legion in Gulf Shores.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marian.
Survivors include three daughters, Julie (Stephen) Wentworth of Battle Creek, Mich., Rebecca (David) Hutchins of Lime, Ohio, and Nancy Rautmann of Shelbyville, Mich.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be sent to Odyssey Healthcare Hospice of Baldwin County or the American Legion Post 99 of Foley.
