Public input welcomed Monday on proposed family entertainment center

Posted

SPANISH FORT, Ala.—If things go smoothly Monday night for the Foley owners of a family entertainment center, Eastern Shore residents might be spending next Valentine’s Day bowling and playing laser tag.

The Spanish Fort Planning Commission will consider four requests by Cole Properties LLC intended to create a 35,000 family entertainment facility at the Eastern Shore Centre, and local residents will have their chance to voice support or opposition for at least three of those items.

Although collective chatter during an informal Jan. 31 work session indicated commissioners favor the proposal, Chairman Carl Nelson said public hearings will be held during Monday’s meeting for the Coles’ land use, preliminary and final subdivision requests. The proposed site plan that hinges on approval of the other three requests is not subject to public input.

The Coles, who own and operate Gulf Bowl in Foley, have proposed construction of a $4.6 million mixed-use facility on Eastern Shore Boulevard just south of Arlington Properties. If approved, the complex would include a 24-lane bowling alley, arcade, sports bar and grill, billiards, a mezzanine area and laser tag.

Sonya Cole said the facility would employ 45 people.

An informal work session will begin at 6 p.m. at the Gathering Place, followed immediately by the regular meeting at 6:30 p.m.
