SPANISH FORT, Ala. — The youth of Providence United Methodist Church will hold a yard sale to raise funds for summer youth programs that include a mission trip and camp.
The yard sale will be held May 21 from 7 a.m. to noon at Providence UMC. The event will be held rain or shine inside the church building, located between Spanish Fort High School and Middle School at 32200 Jimmy Faulkner Drive.
Members of the Encounter youth ministry have been collecting gently used items for weeks to prepare for the yard sale, according to youth director Thom Dumas.
“All money raised will help Encounter, the youth ministry of Providence UMC, offset the cost of our summer mission trip to the Tuscaloosa area for tornado disaster recovery, and summer camp at Talladega,” Dumas said. Youth will also be involved in other summer activities including helping with Vacation Bible School and a tubing trip.
Dumas said Encounter is open to all youth in the community in sixth through 12th grades. The group meets Sundays at 6:30 p.m. at PUMC and is currently studying the lives of the saints, both modern and ancient.
“My whole approach to ministry and life is about building relationships,” Dumas said. My goal for ministry is to help people develop a deep and authentic relationship with Jesus Christ and discover the talents and abilities with which God has gifted them.”
