Charitable giving is alive and well in Southwest Alabama.
The Thanksgiving and Christmas season are always tough on needy families. For the past few years, Prodisee Pantry has given turkeys to families so children can have the traditional feast often portrayed at school and in the media. We are excited to report that in just November, the pantry served 1,396 families and gave away some six and a half tons of turkeys and more than eight tons of special holiday food. We anticipate helping another 1,200 families with special food and regular food in December.
This is a huge undertaking that would not happen if the community did not pull together and support their neighbors. Prodisee Pantry would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the sponsors, runners, and volunteers of the 3rd Annual Turkey Trot held in October. Thanksgiving and Christmas at Prodisee Pantry is truly a result of their generous spirits.
Thank you to our primary sponsor Windcreek Casino/PCI Gaming Authority, Key sponsors: Tyndall Federal Credit Union, Manning Trucking, Baldwin County Sewer Service, Chris Myers Automall, The D'Oliveira-Frick-Dutra Group at Morgan Stanley, William G Helis Chapter 310 Order of AHEPA, Providence United Methodist Church, Freedom Church, and Eastern Shore Baptist Church. Thanks to Riviera Utilities, Wintzell's Oyster House, Thompson Engineering, Spanish Fort United Methodist Church, Bankcorp South, the City of Daphne, Daphne Utilities, Bruno's and so many more. Special thanks Karen McVay, chair and to the Turkey Trot Team who coordinated this year's event!
Prodisee Pantry brings hope by feeding physical, emotional and spiritual hunger. This community ministry assists Baldwin County families in crisis with emergency food, disaster relief and referrals to other programs that may help to stabilize the household. This ministry will serve more than 11,000 family visits this year. The struggling economy continues to affect our communities. In fact, our caring volunteers are providing fresh produce, frozen and staple groceries to 1,000 families each month.
Prodisee Pantry will be hosting our 4th annual 5K and Fun Run Turkey Trot Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013. We will soon be unveiling a plan for teams, special kid categories and more. More than 425 runners and their families enjoyed the post-race party this year.
We are looking for 2013 sponsors to help offset the cost of this fun family friendly event. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization, all donations to Prodisee Pantry are tax deductible.
For more information on how your business can get involved in the Turkey Trot or other service opportunities at Prodisee Pantry, please contact us at 251-626-1720 or at www.prodiseepantry.org. Thank you for your continuing support of this growing ministry.
Many Blessings for a very Merry Christmas and a most prosperous New Year!
