Here’s a look at a few of the most intriguing games of the upcoming high school football season in Baldwin County.

August 20: The intrigue begins before the season officially begins as Foley and Gulf Shores meet for the first time in football in a jamboree game at Ivan Jones Stadium in Foley. This will be a good test to see where both teams are heading into the season.

August 27: Fairhope visits Spanish Fort in what could be a mammoth season-opener. Spanish Fort was a play or two away from playing for the 5A title last season, and Fairhope had one of the best seasons in school history in 2009. Both teams will have new faces at quarterback.

September 3: Class 3A, Region 1 Bayside Academy plays one of its toughest region games at home in week two. The Admirals host powerhouse T.R. Miller in an early battle for control of the region. Also, on the south end of the county Gulf Shores hosts Spanish Fort in a 5A, Area 1 rivalry showdown and Robertsdale meets Foley in a traditional rivalry game.

September 10: Robertsdale hosts 6A, Region 2 newcomer Williamson. The Bears could use a region win early in the season, and this might be their chance to get one.

September 24: Daphne hosts Theodore in a rematch of a 2009 playoff matchup. Daphne knocked off the top-10 Bobcats to advance in 6A.

October 2: Spanish Fort visits Faith Academy in an important region game.

October 8: Foley plays at Fairhope in the annual Blue-Gold rivalry game.

October 15: Spanish Fort visits Vigor at Prichard Stadium in what could be a battle of two of 5A’s top teams. Both are predicted to be title contenders, and this one could decide who wins 5A, Region 1.

October 29: Fairhope meets 6A, Region 1 foe Davidson in what could be a preview of a playoff matchup a week or two later.
