GULF SHORES, Ala. -- One of the lesser known services of the CSC is to help qualified per-sons receive assistance with prescription drug needs.
This service is provided through the Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy for uninsured individuals and is administered by Catholic Social Services. The program (out of Mobile) serves residents from Mobile, Baldwin and Escambia Counties in Alabama.
Prescriptions available are mainly generic drugs, limited diabetic drugs and supplies, and do not include controlled substances. Individuals who qualify receive a 30-day supply which must be picked up monthly at the Catholic Social Services office in Robertsdale.
To continue in the program, recipients must be recertified every six months. To determine qualification, a client must bring a photo ID, a current bill showing address, documentation of all income of everyone in the house-hold (pay stubs, tax return, food stamp letter, statement showing social security, disability, or retirement benefits), and a written prescription from their doctor (not the medicine bottle).
If Ozanam does not have the drug, Catholic Social Services does offer a Patient Assistance Program to help the client get into a manufacturer’s program. Appointments to determine whether a client is qualified for the program are conducted on Wednesdays and generally last for an hour.
For more information call the Christian Service Center at 251-968-5256 or Catholic Social Services at 251-434-1550.
