Wednesday, Oct. 12, Prep Baseball Report announced the teams that will play in the inaugural PBR South AL Showdown to help kick off the 2023 season Feb. 23-25. Baldwin County will be represented by Bayside Academy, Daphne, Fairhope, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Robertsdale and Spanish Fort.

Games will be hosted at Robertsdale and Orange Beach High Schools as well as the Sportsplex in Gulf Shores with contests starting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, 2 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.

“This field of 13 high school teams is littered with some of the state’s top prospects across the board in various classifications, and also consists of two of last year’s state champions (6A Hartselle, 4A Mobile Christian),” the press release says. “There will be much more information coming once the event gets closer in the spring, including full team previews, players to watch, etc.”

In addition to the Baldwin County squads, other top teams will visit from Hartselle, Mobile Christian, Saraland, Spain Park, St. Paul’s Episcopal and Tuscaloosa County.

Last season, Fairhope claimed the Class 7A Area 2 regular-season title with an 8-1 record, Gulf Shores won Class 6A Area 2 undefeated, Orange Beach was Class 2A Area 1 regular-season champion with a 4-2 mark.
