George Marnon Plates, 76, a native of New York, and a resident of Foley, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008.

He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. He received a Phd. in psychology, was a talented artist and musician who was also an author of two published books, "Dad the Dreamer" and "A Book of Poetry for You From Me." He was a member of the Robertsdale United Methodist Church and choir; volunteered in organizations to include: ABWA, Foley Senior Circle, Baldwin Writer's Group, Baldwin County Metal Health Center as a certified Marriage, Family and Child counselor and was a Gold Toastmaster. He enjoyed pinochle and teaching art classes.

Survivors include two daughters, Heather P. (Bob M.) Knight of Robertsdale and Nicole Ladelle (Cameron Cook) Plates of Charlotte, N.C.; two sons, Alex George Plates of Charlotte N.C., and Christopher Marnon (Vilai) Plates of Costa Mesa, Calif.; two sisters, Audrey Vonazountas of Athens, Greece, and Barbara Ulrich of Spotsylvania, Va.; and one grandchild, Dylan Patrick Knight.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 23 at Robertsdale United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Sedberry and Lollie Gravette officiating. Burial followed at Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements were made by Mack Funeral Home and Crematory, Robertsdale.
