Planning Commission grants site-disturbance permit extension to Apalachee residential community

DAPHNE, Ala.—The Daphne Planning Commission on Thursday by a 6-1 vote approved a site-disturbance extension for the Apalachee Residential Community.

Commissioners Mayor Fred Small, Ed Kirby, Joe Lemoine, Larry Chason, Fire Chief Bo White and Don Terry voted in favor while Cathy Barnette voted against extending the site-disturbance permit.

“I haven’t been supportive of the project in Daphne, and I still do not support this project,” Barnette said.

Spanish Fort-based dentist Barry Booth requested the extension. The property received site-plan approval by the commission on July 28, 2005 and revised site-plan approval on Aug. 28, 2006. The council issued the site disturbance permit on March 21, 2007, and one-year extensions were granted on Jan. 24, 2008, Jan. 22, 2009 and Dec. 17, 2009.

Barnette made a motion to not approve the extension request, but it did not receive a “second” and did not come to a vote.

In other news, the commission:

  • Unanimously approved a preliminary final plat review of the TimberCreek Golf Course re-subdivision of Parcel B. The property, zoned B-1, General Business, is northwest of the Alabama Highway 181 and Interstate 10 intersection, and the request asks to divide a lot into two parcels.
  • Unanimously approved a preliminary plat review of the Malbis Business Park re-subdivision of lot two. The property, zoned B-4, major commercial district, is on the east side of Alabama Highway 181 and north of Eastern Shore Boulevard.
