Pirates stay hot, improve to 9-0

FAIRHOPE – The Fairhope Pirates kept their win streak alive over the weekend defeating McGill-Toolen 20-4 and Davidson 6-1 on Friday and swept Cullman and Hartselle Saturday 5-1 and 6-5 in eight.

The four-game sweep-a-thon featured three grand slams and five lesser home runs as Fairhope improves to 9-0 heading into this weekend showdown with Daphne who split the Cullman-Hartselle travel package on Friday.

Against the Jackets, Chase Domino had three RBIs including a grand slam, Garrett Pitts also had a slam, Peyton Fuller had a two-run shot and Justin Hathcock a solo homer in the win for Domino who improved to 2-0.

Against the Warriors, Ashton Johnson got the win throwing a one-hitter with nine strike outs. Cody Etheridge had three hits including a slam and Domino hit his fourth homer of the season.

The night before, Daryl Norris got his third pitching win 5-1 on a one hitter over Cullman with Domino helping on a two-run home run. In the nightcap, Wes Kent (2-0) got the win in relief for Fairhope as Pitts doubled to drive in Kaleb Naseman in the eighth to keep the streak alive.

Daphne fell to Cullman 3-1 but shutout Hartselle 10-0 with Brandon Peterson (2-1) the winner. Kyle reese had three hits and four RBIs, Russ Mosley two hits and two RBIs and Jared Olsen a pair of hits for the Trojans.

Daphne will visit Fairhope Friday at 6:30 p.m. to start a three game series with games two and three at DHS Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
