John Anthony Pinter, 79, a native of Columbus, Ohio, and a resident of Elberta, died at his home in Perdido Beach, Sunday, June 14, 2009.
He was a Navy officer and was on the USS Forrestal with John McCain when the terrible fire took 134 sailors, 20 aircraft and almost sunk the ship. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and civil service; was awarded three bronze stars and other medals; was a life member of the Warrington Elks; VFW; and a member of the Foley American Legion and Lillian Community Club.
Survivors include his wife Eileen Pinter of Elberta; step-daughter, Barbara (Gary) Fachnrich of Elberta; two step-sons, John (Angie) Thoburn of Las Vegas and Donald (Jackie) Stone of Columbus, Ohio; half-brother, Al (Marge) Sarka of Palm Harbor, Fla.; four step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family requests memorial donations be made to your favorite children's charity.
