Pier House Restaurant & Bar has opened a new location along Battleship Parkway close to the causeway in Spanish Fort.

After originally establishing in Orange Beach, owner Carrie Munier decided to open another location in Spanish Fort. Munier and her family are disabled veterans who currently live in Daphne, so making the drive to Spanish Fort is a lot easier for business operations.

What makes Pier House stand out is that their food has been made to accommodate those with food allergies. Munier said her husband and her daughter have food allergies, so being able to make food that addresses their needs is important to their dining.

“There’s a lot of people that don’t understand food allergies,” Munier said. “Just being able to accommodate them and understanding all of our ingredients, and we make sure our staff is fully trained as well, that’s been a big thing for us.”

Pier House serves traditional seafood from the Gulf Coast. Along with their shrimp platters, Munier said one of their most popular dishes is their Jamaican Escovitch, a spicier kind of dish that includes fish and a glaze topped with assorted vegetables.

The menu denotes acronyms for every item based on what they name as common allergies, including gluten-free, peanut, tree nut, dairy, shellfish, egg, soy, sesame, coconut, fish, pork, wheat and mustard.

Along with having a place in the area that her husband can eat at without worrying, Munier and her family also love to connect with the local community. One thing they like to say to their customers who walk in and out of the door is “Shell Yeah,” a phrase they use to greet and bid farewell to those dining, creating a sense of humorous hospitality.

“[We like] having an establishment that we can eat at that my husband doesn’t get sick at,” Munier said “It’s important to us because we can’t really eat anywhere because of him. We [also] like to connect with the locals here.”

Pier House’s new Spanish Fort establishment is located at 5872 Battleship Parkway. They are open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays (except for Mondays in which they are closed) and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends.
