ORANGE BEACH - The Coastal Alabama Business Chamber held its fourth-annual Coastal Tailgate Cook-Off Challenge at The Wharf in Orange Beach on Saturday, Aug. 22.
Culinary teams from Baldwin County and along the Gulf Coast competed by cooking a variety of tailgate-style food featuring bacon as a prime ingredient. In the end, Barometer Waterfront Grill won both People's Choice and first place, winning a golden ticket to Indianapolis, Indiana, where the team will compete in the World Food Championships.
The establishment won with its brie and blackberry bacon jam grilled cheese, which featured peppered bacon, blackberry jam, gruyere and brie between two brioche slices. The sandwich was served with bacon-infused lobster mac and cheese.
"This is fantastic," said Mark Smith, owner and chef of Barometer. "This is our second year to enter this, and we placed last year, but to get first place this year was fantastic. We're just excited about it."
