GULF SHORES, Ala. -- Gulf Shores police are seeking the public's help in the Tuesday hit-and-run death of cyclist  Michael J. Hoeft of Gulf Shores.

Hoeft's family members found a piece of a vehicle at the scene of the crash on Wednesday and it led officers to Dennis Hutchenson, 52 of Gulf Shores. The piece belonged to a 2001 black Ford Explorer with the tag number 5A86T71.

Police ask anyone who sees the vehicle to please call the department at 251-968-1238.  During non-business hours or on weekends, calls may be directed to 251-968-2431.  Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call GSPD’s Crime Line at 251-968-1499.

Also, anyone who recalls seeing a 2001 black Ford Explorer in the vicinity of 500 County Road 4 east after 6 p.m. is also urged to call the Gulf Shores Police Department.

"We know the actual vehicle we are looking for and the guy," Sgt. Jason Woodruff of the Gulf Shores Police Department said. "He is not cooperating and he will not tell us where the vehicle is. I'm sure he's given it to somebody to take out of the area or taken it out of the area."
