Performing Arts Association bringing color to April

The Performing Art Association will offer the following classes and events at the Art Center, 119 W. Laurel Ave. in Foley.

Classes —

•Show, Don’t Tell: Memoirs II is a creative writing workshop with Cliff Wayne, 10 a.m. to noon, on Tuesday April 10, April 17 and April 24. The cost is $30 for all three sessions.

Beginning Portraits & Pencil, a two-day workshop with Theresa Wayne will be held noon to 3 p.m., April 11-12. The cost is $80.

•Beginning Portraits & Acrylics, a two-day workshop with Theresa Wayne, to take place noon to 3 p.m., April 18-19. The cost is $80.

•Beginning Portraits & Oils, a two-day workshop with Theresa Wayne, will be held from noon to 3 p.m., April 25-26. The cost is $80.

Performing Art Association members only events —

•Tight-knit Group: Join fellow PAA members at 11 a.m. every Saturday at the Arts Center to exchange ideas and techniques of knitting and other needle work. Please bring all your own supplies.

•Open Studios: All PAA members are invited to bring their own easels and canvases Thursdays to the Arts Center to share ideas & techniques in painting. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned artist, come and enjoy the fun of painting.

Other happenings at the Performing Arts Center —

•Front Gallery Silent Auction: Bid on beautiful donated art pieces, originals and prints from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays in the front gallery of the Art Center. All proceeds to go toward local student scholarships given by the PAA. Bidding ended March 28.

•Art Competition to benefit Baldwin County’s battered women’s shelter, The Lighthouse: Families were encouraged to participate with the theme of “healthy relationships.”

Submissions will be judged on April 14.

Award for first place winner will be $250 (Donated by the Woerner Company).

Second place winner will be a $100 gift certificate to the Performing Arts Center (Donated by the Performing Arts Association).

Third place winner will be a $50 gift certificate to Southern Comfort Antique and Gift Shop in Foley (Donated by Julie McKenzie).
