Perdido Optimists offer flag program for residents

LILLIAN, Ala. -- Residents who want to fly the American flag on national holidays, but are unable to do it, can take advantage of the Optimist Club of Perdido Bay “Streets of Red, White and Blue” program.

For $35 a year the club members will install a flag in the front yard for display on Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Veteran’s Day. They will “plant” a receptacle approximately five feet from the street in front of the home.

Then a few days before the holiday they will install the flag and a few days afterward, they will remove it and store it until the next holiday. The Optimist Club will be responsible for replacement of any flag that is soiled, damaged or stolen.

Proceeds from the program will be used to support local youth programs, encouraging them to become better citizens.

To place your order, contact Duane Whitmyer, (251) 256-4180, szn3zj@yahoo.com or Bill Cornell, (251) 962-2855, cornybil@gulftel.com. Discounts will be given to those who order more than five flags.
