PenAir names 2026 Communerosity charities, highlights local impact across Gulf Coast

PenAir Credit Union announced eight local nonprofits as its 2026 Communerosity Charities, continuing an employee-driven tradition that blends philanthropy, volunteerism and community investment across Northwest Florida and South Alabama.

The charities, nominated and selected by PenAir employees, include Operation ReConnect, Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama and Eco Clean Marine, all of which serve communities locally and were highlighted as part of this year’s slate according to a news release. Also selected are Child Guardians Inc., The Miracle League of Pensacola, EscaRosa Suicide Prevention Coalition, The Wildlife Sanctuary of Northwest Florida and Saint Francis Service Dogs.

Communerosity is a core value at PenAir, reflecting a belief that financial success is inseparable from community well-being. As a member-owned credit union, PenAir emphasizes giving back where members live, work and serve. Through the program, employees support local nonprofits through direct donations and hands-on volunteer service throughout the year.

Operation ReConnect focuses on strengthening military families and veterans through relationship education and support services. Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama provides leadership development and character-building programs for girls across the region. Eco Clean Marine works to protect coastal waterways through environmental cleanup and education, aligning with ongoing efforts to preserve the Gulf Coast’s natural resources.

Each of the eight nonprofits will receive a monetary donation and dedicated volunteer support from PenAir employees, reinforcing long-term partnerships rather than one-time contributions.

As the credit union looks ahead to 2026, it is also recognizing the impact of past Communerosity grants. One example is 4EVER DEZ, a 2025 recipient that used its $6,000 grant to expand programming for girls.

“The $6,000 Communerosity grant strengthened our ability to empower girls through confidence and prevention education,” Taxie Lambert said in the release. “It allowed us to provide dresses, jewelry, and educational materials that help girls feel valued, informed, and confident. This support expanded our reach, elevated our programs, and ensured the girls we serve feel celebrated and empowered. We are deeply grateful for PenAir’s investment in our mission.”

PenAir employees logged more than 6,200 volunteer hours in 2025, supporting 177 organizations through 1,960 community activities. Efforts ranged from food pantries and shelters to youth programs, environmental cleanups and special events throughout the Gulf Coast. A paid volunteer time program allows employees to serve during work hours, increasing participation and overall impact.

Since launching the Communerosity Employee Fundraising Program in 2013, PenAir and its employees have contributed more than $500,000 to local nonprofits, underscoring a long-standing commitment to economic empowerment and community enrichment.
