FAIRHOPE, Ala. – The Weeks Bay Foundation will present its inaugural Pelican Paddle Kayak & Canoe Race on Saturday, July 27. Location is the Weeks Bay Resource Center beneath the US 98 bridge.
Registration and check-in will be between 8:00 and 8:45 a.m.; races begin at 9:00. Rain date if needed will be the following day, Sunday, July 28.
Race entry includes lunch, water/soft drinks, a Pelican Paddle t-shirt, and a raffle to win a kayak and other awesome prizes! First, second, and third place finishes of each division will be awarded medals in the following categories:
3.5-mile race divisions:
Men’s Solo Kayak
Women’s Solo Kayak
Junior Solo Kayak (Age 13 and under)
Canoe, 2 paddlers
Stand Up Paddle Board
Non-Traditional (Includes tandem kayaks, pedal kayaks, and any type of non-motorized boat not included in other divisions, excluding sailboats)
7-mile race division:
Pro Solo Kayak (Any age and gender)
Weeks Bay will have a limited number of kayaks to use for those who don't have their own - you must call before registering to make sure we have one for you!
You will not be permitted to race without a life jacket!
Your attendance will raise funds to protect the natural resources of coastal Alabama while supporting the Weeks Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve.
