Payton Tunsel Taylor Jr., 77, passed away Aug. 12, 2013 at Robertsdale Health Care Center in Robertsdale.
Payton was born Aug. 14, 1935 in Atmore. His parents were Payton T. Taylor Sr. and Catherine Agee Taylor.
Payton was a descendant of the Poach Band of Creek Indians and a tribal member. He was very proud of his heritage.
He attended Escambia County High School, and then served in the National Guard. He served in the United States Army soon after high school, living in many places such as Texas and Alaska. He was a proud American veteran.
After the service he worked for Sutton Music, and in his later years for the city of Robertsdale.
His last 10 years were spent as a resident of Live Oak Village in Foley. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
He is survived by his daughters, Tammy Taylor of Dallas, Texas, Sonya Moye (Ken) of Loxley, Catherine Denise Cooper (Lyle) of Gulf Shores, Jessica Fell (Gavin) of Loxley and Claudette Lloyd (James) of Robertsdale; sons, Dewayne Taylor (Russ Tucker) of Atlanta, Ga., and Jeremy Taylor and Joseph Taylor, both of Robertsdale; sister, Christina Ashcraft (Jimmy) of Spanish Fort; brother, Kenneth Taylor (Evelyn) of Atmore; 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at 10 a.m., at Mack Funeral Home chapel, with Pastor Glenn Butler and Pastor Jody Kranz officiating. Burial will be in Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 9 until 10 a.m., at Mack Funeral Home.
