Paul Henry Smith, 69, of Foley, Alabama, passed away surrounded by his loved ones at his daughter's residence in Cumming, Georgia on Sept. 19, 2016, after a long and brave battle with bladder cancer.

Paul was the youngest of seven, born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Hungarian immigrants, William and Margarit Angel on Oct. 7, 1946.

In 1963, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served until 1967 in Pensacola, Florida.

He married Pensacola native Sharon Shaw in June of 1966. Paul and Sharon settled and raised their two beautiful daughters in Stone Mountain, Georgia, where he was employed by MARTA, before retiring to Foley, Alabama in 2013.

Paul was a spiritual man and a devoted husband and father.

He enjoyed golf and loved to fish, having dreamed of spending his retirement fishing on the Gulf Coast. He was a passionate Georgia Bulldawg football fan, after his daughter, Addie earned her veterinary medicine degree at UGA, which made him very proud.

Paul loved spending time with his family and deeply cherished his precious grandchildren.

Paul leaves his beloved wife of 50 years, Sharon Smith, also of Foley, Alabama; his daughter and son-in-law, Jason and Amy Olson of Orange Beach, Alabama; his daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Dr. Adrienne "Addie" Welch of Cumming, Georgia; three grandchildren, Landon Olson, Greenlee and Georgia Welch. He is also survived by three brothers and one sister, along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services handled by McDonald and Son of Cumming, Georgia. A celebration of life will take place at Orange Beach United Methodist, followed by a low-country boil in Orange Beach, Alabama at a later date.

Paul will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. He loved life and had an amazing sense of humor.

We take comfort in knowing that the angels relieved his suffering and carried him home to "dwell in the house of the LORD forever" - Psalms 23.
