West Mobile, Alabama — The Murphy Panthers advanced to the 6A Final Four with a 2-1 double OT, double penalty-kick shootout win over Daphne’s Trojans Saturday in the third-round of the 6A state playoffs

Daphne appeared to have punched their ticket to Huntsville with a goal in the second sudden-death overtime period against Murphy. But the goal was disallowed on an offside call that silenced the celebration.

The match was tied nil-nil at the half, 1-1 after regulation and through both five-minute, sudden-death periods and the first best-of-five shootout. Murphy’s Mohammed Al Mashhadini then scored the winning goal in the next, sudden-death shootout round.

The Trojans took a 1-0 lead early in the second half when Levi Ehmka finished a feed from Tyler Cox for the score. Moses Muhubao evened the score about 12 minutes later with Ashton Dreher picking up the scoring assist.

Josh Gurvitz, Cox and Sam Seawell scored PKs in the first OT shootout for DHS to match MHS’ three and force the sudden-death shootout.

Will Carpenter had 10 saves for Daphne (19-4-2) and Murphy (20-3-2) keeper Sebastian Garcia had eight. The two teams came into the match with nearly identical records and had tied 2-2 early in the season in the Southern Shootout Tournament. The loss broke an 11-match win streak by the Trojans whose season ended with Elite Eight standing and a Top-10 ranking. The Trojans had 14 shutouts, the Panthers 13 so far.
