• Lady Saints coach Michael Turner picks up 201st career victory at Central Christian

ROBERTSDALE, Ala.—The Lady Saints improved to 19-1 with a 66-35 homecoming win over West Florida Baptist Academy on Jan. 21.

Senior point guard Haley Henson led Central Christian with a game-high 26 points. Autumn Peyton added 14 and Tiffani Wenzel chipped in seven for CCS.

The West Florida Conquerors were led by Havilah Berry with 18 points and Ashtyn Kavnitz with 13.

The victory was also career win No. 201 for Lady Saints head coach Michael Turner who took over the program in 2002.

Six conference titles, seven regional titles and 10 final-four appearances later Turner feels more than ever that he found his calling.

"It's been a blessing. I feel called to be here as a recreational minister and share my faith with the kids and encourage them. Had such great athletes throughout the years. And had great support from the administration and parents.”

The Lady Saints have won the last five Panhandle Christian Conference titles and are going for their sixth consecutive title and seventh overall. Under Turner, the Lady Saints have not lost a conference game since 2010.

“We’ve been blessed with talented players since I’ve been here and I think this may be the best team so far.”

Turner reached the 200-win milestone in a home-court win over Lighthouse Baptist out of Theodore last week. His overall career mark stands at 201-98.

The Central Christian girls are also undefeated in conference play at 7-0 headed into the playoffs. The Lady Saints are set to defend their conference championship beginning Feb. 5-6 at Aletheia Christian in Pensacola.

BOYS

Central Christian 65, West Florida 43: Zion Bethel led the Saints with 22 points. Teammates David Enfinger and Christian Goodwin added 19 and 16 points respectively. Goodwin was 11-for-12 at the free throw line.

The Conquerors were led by Caleb Maupin with 14 points and Trey Tomey who added 10.

The Saints’ (JV and Varsity Boys) last home games are set for Thursday, Jan. 28 against Atmore Christian. Central closes out the regular season Friday, Jan. 29 at S.L. Jones Christian in Pensacola.
