DAPHNE, Alabama - Saraland won the sub-district (District 7) OZONE (11-12) Dixie Youth Baseball tournament Wednesday night 12-2 over runner-up Fairhope American at Lott Park in Daphne.

Fairhope edged the Spartans 7-6 in the first game of the twilight doubleheader but failed to contain Saraland after the fourth inning in game two. Fairhope who lost the opener to Spanish Fort Friday, battled back to the championship round to hand the Spartans their first loss of the tournament 17-8. But the Pirates needed to win twice for the title.

Bay Minette faced the Spartans Tuesday and bult an 8-0 lead, but Saraland rallied to win 9-8 on a walk-of grand slam by Tory Howell—his second grand slam of the night.

Fairhope had defeated Bay Minette Monday 5-3.

Local teams from Mobile and Baldwin counties will advance to the District 7 tournament in Fairhope this weekend after sub-district results which establish seeding for the District 7 tournament.

Fairhope will host both OZONE and AA tournaments at Volanta Park beginning this weekend. AAA (9-10) All Stars will begin sub-district play this weekend in Spanish Fort. Bay Minette hosts the AAA District 7 tournament.

Fairhope wins AA (Machine pitch 7-8) Division: Also in Daphne the Fairhope AA team defeated the host team for the first-place trophy Tuesday night at Lott Park. The teams will advance to Fairhope for district play.
