Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy will host its annual fundraiser, “The 8th Annual Jazz Extravaganza: Rx for A Cause,” on Thursday, June 25, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Calirojae, 1004 Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile.
The event will feature live performances from three Mobile-area jazz acts, including the Cedric Brooks Project and Harvey and Leonard, who will open the evening with smooth jazz, a news release said. The Excelsior Band will follow by leading the second line.
Guests also will enjoy Harvey Antone’s Smooth Jazz Experience, Southern comfort food, an open bar, dancing, a silent auction and raffle prizes. Tickets are $60 each.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will support Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy, which serves as the only free prescription medication safety net for uninsured individuals in Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia and Washington counties.
According to the organization, Ozanam Pharmacy provided medications valued at $2.7 million to 1,017 residents during the past year. Funds raised through the event help sustain the pharmacy’s purchase of generic medications and support its Nutrition Rx Program, a monthly fresh produce program for diabetic and hypertensive patients.
“We're on a jazzy mission to help our supporters and community enjoy a fun experience while assisting neighbors in need. This premiere event helps us to sustain our purchase of generic medication and support for our Nutrition Rx Program, a monthly fresh produce program for diabetic and hypertensive patients,” Shearie Archer, Ozanam’s executive director, said in the release.
The fundraiser brings together jazz enthusiasts and community partners to support access to life-sustaining medications for residents in need.
