The Original Oyster House will award a $1,000 Chelsea Garvin Spirit Award Scholarship to a Baldwin County high school senior.

The scholarship, now in its 21st year, honors the memory of Chelsea Garvin, a 2004 Fairhope High School graduate, Fish River Fire Department rescue diver, Original Oyster House employee and talented artist who died in a boating accident in 2005.

The Chelsea Garvin Spirit Award Scholarship was created in 2006 to celebrate Chelsea's passion for art and community. Eligible students must be Baldwin County high school seniors for the 2025-2026 school year with a minimum 2.5 GPA and recent participation in a school or community art event. Applicants must submit original artwork that reflects the Original Oyster House brand in a medium such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, pastel, charcoal, pen and ink, colored pencil, mixed media, ceramics or sculptural forms.

Artwork must be display-ready, completely dry, and will become the property of the Original Oyster House for marketing or other purposes. Submission identification should include the artist's name, title of the artwork, medium, teacher's name and school. The application and photo of the artwork must be submitted online by Friday, April 17, at www.originaloysterhouse.com/scholarship. The highest consideration will be given to submissions demonstrating artistic creativity and strong alignment with the Original Oyster House brand.

The Original Oyster House has two locations, in Gulf Shores at 701 Gulf Shores Parkway on the boardwalk and in Mobile at 3733 Battleship Parkway on the Mobile Causeway. Known for spectacular waterfront views, both locations have been recognized as premier family restaurants for more than 40 years. In 2016, the Original Oyster House became the first restaurant in Alabama to recycle oyster shells through the Alabama Coastal Foundation and remains among the few in the state to cultivate oysters for reef restoration.
