ORANGE BEACH, Ala. — The city of Orange Beach Parks and Recreation Department hosted a Hunter Education Field Day on Nov. 1. The event was held at the Orange Beach Recreation Center.
The lead instructor for the course was James Altiere with the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries. Volunteer instructors included Chris Litton, Jimmy Ellis, Jeff Ryan, Preston De La Parra, Bobby Story, Sam Story, Alan McElroy and Cecil Kline.
Participants, ages 10 and up, were required to take an online course prior to the Field Day. Then, during the event, the participants demonstrated their knowledge of hunting related issues such as fire arm safety and handling, responsible hunting and hunter ethics, wildlife laws, wildlife management and identification, archery, muzzleloading, first aid, survival and game care. Students received a patch and an identification card that is recognized as proof of completion of the hunter education course, which is required by Alabama and some other states to obtain hunting licenses.
Event coordinator Chris Litton said that the event was so popular that a second Hunter Education Field Day is planned for Dec. 20 at the Orange Beach Recreation Center. For more information, call Chris at 981-6028.
