ORANGE BEACH, Ala. — Bonnie Lee, retired Director of the Orange Beach Public Library, received the honor of having Oct. 1 proclaimed “Bonnie Lee Day” by Mayor Tony Kennon.
It was presented to her at her retirement party. When asked what she was going to do with herself when she retired, Bonnie stated, “I’m going to do whatever I want to!”
Bonnie has had an illustrious career at Orange Beach. She joined the department as the Director in 2002. As the head of the Library, she has served as chairwoman of the Public Library Division of ALLA (2005-2006), as chairwoman of the convention committee in 2007 and again in 2011, and as chair of the grant committee for the LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) Committee.
Under her leadership, Orange Beach Public Library became the first library in the State of Alabama to offer free wireless internet connection to the public. The Orange Beach Library was also recognized as one of the top 30 public libraries in the country for its size and operating budget.
She has served on the Baldwin County Leadership steering committee, served in the Orange Beach Lions Club as both Secretary and President and received multiple recognitions including two years as “Lion of the Year.”
She served as member and President (2009-2010) of the Pleasure Island Rotary, assisted in HIPPY (Home Instruction for parents of Preschool Youngsters), and is currently serving as President of Baldwin County United.
