Orange Beach City Council approved the allocation of $141,246 for the completion of a bell tower at the new Orange Beach High School during the Jan. 7 council meeting.
Proposals for a cast bronze bell and installation for the new Orange Beach High School were received and opened in October last year. Sharpe, Inc. was the only firm to submit a proposal.
After considering numerous options to minimize cost and obtain the desired bell effect, the mayor and the City Council voted to move forward with a digital audio option and an aesthetic enclosure of the bell tower. The digital carillon bells, labor, materials and equipment proposal came in at $44,654. The aesthetic enclosure of the bell tower proposal came in at $96,592.
