Orange Beach City Council filled its Place 3 vacancy on Tuesday evening after two nominations came to a vote.
After being nominated by Councilman Robert Stuart, Pat Simpson, who previously owned Simpson Properties Group and a former planning commission member, will fill the seat left open by Jerry Johnson when he announced his resignation at the June 2 council meeting. Simpson was appointed with a 4-1 vote, with Mayor Tony Kennon as the lone ‘no’ vote.
Nelson Bauer, who previously served on the Orange Beach City Schools Board of Education and as the city’s fire marshal, was nominated by Kennon, but his nomination was defeated 2-3, with Kennon and Councilman Jack Robertson being the only ‘yes’ votes.
Councilman Jeff Silvers was also appointed as mayor pro tempore, formerly held by Johnson, in a 4-1 vote, with Kennon, again, serving as the only ‘no’ vote.
